Canadian Radiologists: Australia Opens New Expedited Specialist Pathway – No Additional Exams Required
If you've ever considered spending part of your career somewhere warmer, with a fantastic lifestyle and exceptional earning potential, there has never been a better time to look at Australia.
From 1 July 2026, radiologists holding a Specialist Certificate in Diagnostic Radiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (awarded on or after 1 July 2002) are eligible for Australia's new Expedited Specialist Pathway.
This means no additional specialist examinations, a streamlined registration process and a direct route to consultant practice in Australia.
Why are Canadian radiologists choosing Australia?
Australia offers the opportunity to combine an outstanding medical career with a lifestyle that is difficult to match. A politically stable country with a strong economy and universal healthcare system, Australia consistently ranks among the world's most desirable places to live.
Whether you prefer the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, or dream of living by the beach in Queensland, Western Australia or one of Australia's many coastal regional centres, there are opportunities to suit every stage of life.
Families are attracted by Australia's excellent public and private schools, safe communities, outdoor lifestyle and year-round sunshine. Weekends can be spent at the beach, boating, golfing, hiking or travelling, with Asia, New Zealand and the South Pacific all within easy reach.
Professionally, radiologists remain in strong demand across both public and private practice. Modern imaging facilities, supportive colleagues and flexible working arrangements provide an excellent work-life balance.
Consultant radiologists can typically expect remuneration in the order of AUD $500,000–$800,000+, with some subspecialty and private practice opportunities exceeding this.
Opportunities currently available include:
Permanent consultant positions in metropolitan and regional locations, teleradiology opportunities, locum assignments and subspecialty roles across Australia. Many employers provide relocation assistance, visa sponsorship and support with registration.
If you've ever thought about experiencing life in Australia, the new expedited pathway has made the move easier than ever.
